Fundamentals and Applications

The one-day program Quantum Computing for Engineers and Scientists: Fundamentals and Applications offers an introduction to the fascinating field of quantum computing. Participants will gain a solid foundation in quantum information science along with a deeper understanding of the capabilities and limitations of quantum computing.

The course begins with an overview of the fundamental principles of quantum information science. Participants will then be presented with selected quantum algorithms and explore how they unlock the power of quantum computing, providing a glimpse into the vast potential of this technology.

The course contrasts this potential to the reality of quantum computing, by exploring the hardware and applications used today. Participants want to gain an understanding of the challenges involved in building, running, and scaling quantum computers.

Finally, participants will gain insights into the quantum computing roadmap and will learn about the latest advancements in the field, eg, in quantum simulation and quantum error correction.

After the course, participants will:

  • have a basic understanding of quantum information science.
  • have learned the key terms used in quantum computing, which enables them to follow technical discussions.
  • be able to distinguish between the hype and reality of quantum computing.
  • have developed an awareness of quantum computing and realistically judge its present and future potential.
